I recently needed to route out a 1/4″ stopped dado – I could have chiseled it out, but I recalled seeing Garret Hack make custom scratch stock for edge moulding, and thought I could do the same – but rather than scratch the dado – I could use one of the Stanley 45 plane irons and route out the waste. The block is just a piece of scrap cherry with a slot cut and a bolt to hold the iron in place. The block has an ‘L’ cut out to act as the fence.
