Every home we’ve lived in has always had a clock hanging in the kitchen and one in the living room, ticking away the hours. Whether an eight-day carriage clock or a wall hanging shaker clock, each has had the same familiar, reassuring tick and that unmistakable Westminster Chimes ringing in the hours.
Several Months ago I posted an article about one of my all-time favorite authors Charles H. Hayward – his book The Complete Book of woodworking is a great book if you are just starting out in woodworking – indeed when I first started working wood in the early 70s this was the book I used.

Start with two pieces of contrasting wood, I am using some very old wormy maple and a piece of equally old walnut.

It’s hard to imagine being a wood worker and not having a good quality wooden mallet. In fact, the wooden mallet is essential for joinery, furniture making, for chopping mortises and ‘persuading’ joints together and apart. Wooden mallets have been around for thousands of years.
